BIOGRAPHY AND FAMILY PRAISES OF LATE
MRS. WINIFRED BOLANLE OYENUGA (aka IYA IBADAN)
(September 17, 1940---November 17, 2020)
The first of four children, Mrs. Winifred Bolanle Oyenuga was born on September 17, 1940, in Agbeni, Ibadan, Oyo State, into Muslim family headed by the late Mr. and Mrs. Oladejo. The family lived at "Agboole Amunigun."
She met her late husband, Pa Clement Adekunle Oyenuga, through destiny, and it was thanks to him that she was converted to Catholicism. She was baptized at St. Cyprian's Catholic Church in Oke Offa, Ibadan, and married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, in the early 1960s.
Despite coming from a family with a strong business background, she was unrelenting in her pursuit of a formal education. She enrolled at Mapo Christ Primary School in Odinjo, Ibadan, then went to Orita-Meffa, an Anglican contemporary school, in Ibadan. Later, she attended Queen of Apostles Teachers' Training College, where she earned her certificate in grade three. Being a wise woman, she did not sit back but continued her education at L.A.T.T.C. Molete Ibadan, where she earned her grade two teaching certificate—the highest teaching credential at the time.
She was a teacher, but there was no denying her love of business. She tried her hand at several other companies, including the selling of food and supplies. She also enjoyed tailoring, though not for a living.

She also held many leadership posts and received accolades from these organizations. In an expression of her unwavering commitment to the Catholic religion, she declared, "My next life goal is to become a Reverend Sister."
She worked as a teacher for many years in Catholic schools in Ibadan and Ijebu-Igbo. After 35 years of employment, she retired in December 1997 from her position as assistant headteacher at St. John's Catholic School in Oke-Sopin, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state, Nigeria. She devoted her entire being to serving God and humanity from that point till her passing.
"Iya-Ibadan," a mother of five and the epitome of a disciplinarian, will be cherished by her offspring, siblings, grandkids, relatives, in-laws, neighbours, retirees, and the Ijebu-Igbo community as a whole.
She died at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital on November 17, 2020, after a brief illness.
